The broad scope of this book covers all currently known viral diseases and infections of domestic animals, with the addition of those of fish and aquatic mammals. Altogether, 157 diseases are described through 8 chapters. Diseases with skin lesions are described in the first chapter. Subsequent chapters deal with diseases of the respiratory system, the alimentary tract, the reproductive tract, the central nervous system, septicaemias, tumours, concluding with viral diseases of fish. All aspects of each disease are described. An introduction, presenting some general characteristics of each disease are given, is followed by descriptions of history, geographical distribution, etiology, epizootiology, pathogenesis, clinical picture, pathological changes, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, economical aspect, treatment, prophylaxis and public health. A list of further reading is provided at the end of the description of each disease to allow easy access to primary literature. This edition has been extensively revised to encompass the most important recent advances. New diseases covered are spongiform encephalopathies, infections with animal immunodeficiency viruses, emerging calici- and morbillivirus infections, etc. Diseases from list A of "Office International des Epizooties" are presented in detail, with all measures required for the control, prevention or eradication of these diseases stated precisely.

This book fills a gap in the field of veterinary publications in the Croatian language. With its compact and clear style, it is primarily oriented towards students. However, with its breadth of coverage and strong emphasis on the clinical approach it is also intended for the use of practitioners and others involved in public health. Presenting advanced approaches to diagnosis and immunoprophylaxis in many of described diseases, this comprehensive book is essential for routine work in veterinary practice, guiding the reader through every aspect of the diseases covered.
