The autor is a former professor of parasitology at the "Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon", France, and member of several academies. He is an outstanding authority in veterinary parasitology and the author of numerous textbooks and research papers. The present book contains 6 chapters. In Chapter 1, the concept of parasitism is discussed. It deals with the alimentation and localization of parasites, describes various life cycles and discusses the pathogenicity of parasites. In Chapter 2, the concept of parasitic specificity is presented. After definition, the biologic factors of the specificity are discussed. Chapter 3 deals with the concept of zoonoses. After definitions which are very explicite, discussed are ways of transmission to man of the parasites of animals. It includes the classification of zoonoses based mainly of life cycles of the parasites. In Chapter 4, the parasitic specificity and anthropo-zoonoses is discussed. In Chapter 5, the fate of the parasites of animal origin transmitted to man is discussed. This Chapter is a comprehensive presentation of the role of man in the life cycle of different types of zoonotic parasites. Chapter 6 deals with the scientific, epidemiologic and prophylactic consequences. The book has 86 mainly drawn figures. The author has a very thorough classical culture, including antique Greek, and is therefore fully qualified to discuss the etimology of names and processes and to propose new definitions. His suggestions are well documented and convincing. At the end of the book there is a summarized bibliography: "Pour en savoir plus" (To know more about it).
The book will be very useful to all students and professionals concerned with parasitism.
